While many soldiers fighting on the frontlines of WWII were forced to subsist on rations, troops stationed along more static areas of the front enjoyed access to field kitchens established behind the lines. Meals were distributed from the kitchen to the foxholes via these large, insulated Mermite cans which held three inserts to divide food items. These would routinely be seen in Jeeps and trucks ferrying supplies to the frontlines, as well as littering WWII era camps and mess lines. Since I know people will ask for it, I've also made a version with the "blood bank" stenciling seen in numerous period photos, where these cans were repurposed for long range transport of blood and plasma to field hospitals.
