Recognizing the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima, I've focused on the first portrayal I'm aware of in custom Lego of Marines as they appeared during this pivotal engagement. As the war in the Pacific came to a conclusion, with the old breed of Marines and disbanded Raider and Paramarine battlaions mixing in with new units of draftees, huge variances in equipment increased. Further amplified by the desolate landscape, and relatively colder temperatures on Iwo Jima, just about every variety of equipment and uniform from WWII make an appearence.

This figure is based off the famous photo of Marine M4A2 Sherman "Killer" on Iwo Jima after recovering a destroyed Japanese light tank. I've had numerous requests for a Marine tank commander, or full crew. Given the constraints of building tanks in Lego usually just allowing for one figure to be displayed out of the cupula, I've chosen just do the commander this time around. Based off images on Saipan and Iwo Jima, this figure would be a great option for Marine tanks serving through most of WWII.

He comes equipped with the standard P1941 Dungarees, which I've updated the art to include the front unbuttoned to sit down easier in the tank, as well as oil stains all over. While Marine tank crews did more frequently have to engage in small arms fire fights "unbuttoned" from the tank than their counterparts in Europe, you generally do not see any web gear worn as exiting the tank would prove a likely death sentence from Japanese ambushes tracking tanks at the frontline and even towards the rear. I have included the ubiquitous "shoulder holster" worn by many tank crewman with wrap around art for it's strap system. The face art also includes new art for the grime accrued fighting inside a tank, as well as the tuft of hair poking out from the helmet matching the reference image. Completing the fig is a Brickmania WWII US Tanker Helmet which I've printed the metal edge of the goggles, as well as a layer of gloss to simulate the clear lenses to give it an extra level of detail.
