$35.00 - $200.00

As I've continued to offer more and more unqiue Marines, I've been getting increased requests to do an officer minifigure to lead them. I've been avoiding it as it's hard to discern Marine officers in original photos, namely because of Japanese snipers, they often did not wear any tell tale insignia or even unique equipment in many cases. I did however, stumble across this widely published photo of a group of officers on Bougainville, likely belonging to the 3rd Marine Raider Battalion. I really enjoy this photo as it highlights how 5 different Marines of similar role and rank can be equipped entirely different from one-another. For this release, I've chosen two of the men center in the photo, to offer two different minifigures to cater to my fans who may prefer putting together a unit of just Frogskin/Raiders or just Dungarees depending on what battles they are trying to depict.

The officer in frogskin, facing the camera, showcases how these officers tend to blend in with their men. Wearing the standard P1942 Frogskin uniform with helmet cover, he's also added one of the distinctive "Raider" helmet nets to stick foliage in. Being an officer, he of course has his trousers tucked into his leggings by the book, a practice less seen among many of the more rag tag Raider Battalions.

Equipment wise, I've created new art to match the photo with his dual first aid pouches, probably done to be more comfortable sitting down in a vehicle rather than having bulkier items in front jabbing his waist. To fit the officer aestetic, I've made the assumption he has a binoculars case on the rear of his belt, as well as included the map case slung over his shoulder, rather than tucked under his arm like the photo. Unique to this figure is also new art for the WWII Marine bolo knife taking place of his sidearm. Originally intended for medical personnel to cut splints, but quickly adopted by many Marines to cut foilage on patrol. Although contrary to popular conception, officers were not universally issued sidearms, and were generally equipped with the M1 carbine throughout the war as a middle ground between issuing them a sidearm, or a cumbersome infantry rifle.

This figure would fit in perfectly with my previous Raiders wearing the frogskin uniforms to help build out a squad, or complete a vehicle MOC with an officer riding along.
