Batch 2 update - Since I now have olive helmets available from BrickArms, I've updated this figure pair with the jungle side artwork helmets which they were most likely wearing - going off color photos from Okinawa.
Based on one of the most iconic photos taken during WWII, this two pack features US Marines Davis Hargraves III with the Thompson and Gabriel Chavarria with the BAR. Engaged in heavy combat on Wana Ridge, Okinawa, these two Marines boast an awesome variety of gear I haven't gotten the opportunity to capture before. Both Marines feature the ubiquitous leggings, one bloused, and the other with his dungaree trousers cuffed over them. Hargraves, as a Platoon Sergeant in a Mortar Squad, is rocking a really light loadout, with only a canteen, Thompson magazine pouch, and his jungle first aid pouch. Interestingly, he does have the well known "tanker" M7 Shoulder Holster well known for use by tank commanders in WWII, although commonly..requisitioned.. by servicemen everywhere. Chavarria, lugging the BAR, also has a much heavier loadout. I've completely rebuilt my art for the BAR belt itself, supporting the leather BAR tool kit, and a mix of both army and Marine contract canteen covers. Wrapped around his P1941 Haversack is his camoflauge poncho, taking the usual place of the shelter half, which is slumping down, probably due to his pack being lightly loaded. Tucked on the left side of his pack uniquely, is a jungle machete, where a bayonet would usually be mounted for a Marine with a rifle. Machine gunners were commonly issued machetes to help clear brush for their field of fire, so it is likely Chavarria was able to obtain one for use with his BAR.
