WWII US Marine Raider Carbine - Bougainville 1943

The Marine Raiders played a key role in the Allied campaign on Bougainville during World War II, conducting aggressive jungle patrols and combat operations against entrenched Japanese forces in late 1943 and early 1944. Operating in difficult terrain marked by dense rainforest, steep ridges, and swamps, the Raiders specialized in reconnaissance, raids, and rapid assaults designed to disrupt enemy positions and protect the Allied perimeter around Empress Augusta Bay. Their actions helped blunt Japanese counterattacks, gather vital intelligence, and secure key terrain, contributing to the eventual neutralization of Japanese forces on the island and supporting the broader Allied advance through the Solomon Islands.

Filling the last major void in my Raider squad lineup is this carbine touting Marine. For this figure, I've referenced a rare photo of Raiders returning from one of their infamous deep penetration patrols, where packing light was crucial. In this instance, the figure features the frogskin shelter half slung across the torso in the style of American Civil War "hobo rolls". I've slightly altered the colors on this print to match the lighter tone of the sunfaded shelter tent in the photo. He otherwise features a very barebones loadout for a fast moving Marine, with pistol belt, carbine pouch, canteen, and both an early yellow mk2 grenade as well as the lesser known mk3 offensive grenade tucked onto the belt at the rear. As always, the figure matches the reference image with an unshaven beard, reminiscent of a certain fellow custom Lego designer and podcast host..
