The Marine Raiders played a key role in the Allied campaign on Bougainville during World War II, conducting aggressive jungle patrols and combat operations against entrenched Japanese forces in late 1943 and early 1944. Operating in difficult terrain marked by dense rainforest, steep ridges, and swamps, the Raiders specialized in reconnaissance, raids, and rapid assaults designed to disrupt enemy positions and protect the Allied perimeter around Empress Augusta Bay. Their actions helped blunt Japanese counterattacks, gather vital intelligence, and secure key terrain, contributing to the eventual neutralization of Japanese forces on the island and supporting the broader Allied advance through the Solomon Islands.
This figure adds to my existing collection of Marine Raider minifigures with a unique departure from the more standard uniforms. Matching the reference image, he includes the common frogskin camouflage jacket but has instead swapped the camo trousers for the standard plain Marine dungarees. The standard boondocker field boots have also been exchanged for the unique WWII Jungle boots. These canvas boots are more akin to converse training shoes of the time, but would eventually prove to be the first iteration of the longstanding US jungle boots employed later in Vietnam. Gear wise he includes the standard pistol belt with holster, compass pouch, canteen, and thompson magazine pouch. General practice, as this photo shows, was often to have a point man carrying a Thompson with drum magazine, but spare magazines would be the standard 20 round sticks carried on the belt. I've also added new art for the Marine Corps contract musette bag on his back, with the straps continuing on to the front. Completing the figure is a Brickmania HBT cap which I've texture printed an EGA pin on to match the image, as well as a wrap around hair print since the hat sits so high.
