The Cybernetic Infiltrator

This piece represents my exploration of 80s nostalgia and its continued influence on pop-culture. I also see it as a commentary on consumerism, technology, and corporate control of intellectual property. While I have deeply mixed feelings & opinions on these topics, my choice to use the medium of Lego also brings things back to a lighthearted uniquely human space. Read into all that as much as you want.

The minifigure itself showcases a mix of artists from within the custom Lego scene. To me the standout feature is an incredibly rare chrome skull by the legendary Hollywood animatronics wizard, Guy Himber (Crazybricks). Known for his work on Aliens, Underworld, Godzilla, and many more titles (seriously check out his IMDB), I’ve had the pleasure of talking with this awesome dude over the years and he was kind enough to provide me with a treasure trove of his exclusive chrome skulls for this project.

The minifigure torso and legs feature clean simple artwork by Lando L. Reimer (that’s me!), harkening back to a more classic style of minifigure design. These are UV printed in small batches right in my [former] living room.

On the Lit Edition, I’ve taken it a step further by individually hand drilling and pressing fiber optic rod into the eye sockets. From there I’ve teamed up with a fellow local Lego troublemaker, Rob  Klingberg at Brick Stuff to internally light the eyes. He is the OG for aftermarket Lego lighting and I’m excited to integrate his second-to-none lighting system.

Again exclusively on the Lit Edition, I’ve taken a stock Lego torso and hand drilled the neck to perfectly hide the lighting wires. Both the Brick Diocese and the Orthodox Greeble Episcopate have harshly condemned my “illegal” brick modifying actions.
