WWII US Marine Rifleman - Guadalcanal 1942

With many of my most requested previous minifigures being based on the battle of Guadalcanal, I've been planning on circling back and examining it again with my current approach of 1:1 representations of real people. This particular minifigure is based off of several rare photos of the 8th Marine regiment in combat on Guadalcanal. 

The 8th Marine regiment is unique, having just left from weeks of training in Samoa to take part the landings on Guadalcanal. Being away from the states meant these Marines did not receive the new M1941 dungarees, or the newly issued field equipment, leaving them with their khaki service uniforms and largely WWI vintage equipment. The khaki service uniform can also be seen worn across just about every Marine regiment on Guadalcanal. As their dungaree uniforms wore out, and replenishment for anything but food and ammunition of little importance to the Navy under threat of attack on any supply convoy, cycling useable uniforms became a daily task. 

This figure depicts a rifleman of the 8th Marines in combat during the closing days of 1942. My art includes the standard Marine Corps rifle belt, canteen, and aid pouch, with the unique addition of the hand camouflage paint done by the 8th Marines while training. showcasing the same camouflage is new art for the WWI vintage P1912 haversack, the Marine's pre-war equivalent to the much hated army haversack. Also of WWI vintage, is the M1917A1 helmet, which was still in major use by the 8th Marines, having not yet received full replacements of M1 helmets. To accompany it, the minifigure head includes printed chinstraps hanging down on both sides.
